A PAKENHAM early learning centre has been announced as a finalist in Victoria’s largest sustainability awards program, the ResourceSmart Education Awards.
Beaconhills College’s ‘Little Beacons Learning Centre’ was chosen as a finalist for initiatives to integrate sustainability into school and home activities and for taking action on climate change.
Little Beacons has demonstrated a commitment to promoting sustainability through various programs, including a bush kinder program called ‘Early Explorers’ and a collaborative publication called ‘Let’s Explore’.
With input from staff, children and parents, Let’s Explore covers topics including healthy living, recycling and information about growing a vegetable garden.
Head of Little Beacons Vicki Reid said it was pleasing to be recognised for the programs.
“We believe children are ambassadors of the environment and the only way to make a long term difference is by providing children with the opportunity to connect with the environment,” Ms Reid said.
Little Beacons is one of three state finalists in the category of Early Childhood Service of the Year. This year, there were more than 180 for the award from over 100 Victorian schools.
The winner will be announced at the ResourceSmart Education Award ceremony, held on Wednesday 14 October at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
