FIREFIGHTERS believe a campfire sparked a grassfire that took hold in Beaconsfield on Monday morning.
Around 11.30am on 11 January crews responded to a report of fire at the corner of Woods Street and Beaconsfield Avenue, but took only a few minutes to bring the fire under control.
A bucket and shopping trolley were found unburned at the site, leading police and firefighters to believe the blaze may have started as a campfire but grew quickly due to the heat.
Two trucks from Beaconsfield attended the incident as well as one from Berwick and one from Pakenham.
At 12.30pm, crews were still monitoring the site and blacking out surrounding areas and Woods Street was still closed to traffic.
