Rider killed at Kooweerup

A MOTORCYCLIST has died in a crash in Kooweerup over the weekend.
The rider, a Tooradin man aged in his early 40s, was thrown from his bike as a result of the crash and suffered fatal injuries.
Police believe a car travelling inbound on the South Gippsland Highway made a right turn into Sybella Avenue around 4.50pm on Sunday 10 January.
The motorbike rider was travelling on the South Gippsland Highway towards Phillip Island when his bike and the car collided at the intersection.
He died at the scene.
The driver of the car, an 83-year-old Lang Lang man, and his passenger, a woman believed to be in her 80s also from Lang Lang, were taken to Dandenong Hospital with minor injuries.
The exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined.
The roads were closed for several hours to traffic as police investigated the incident.
The man was the fifth person to die on Victorian roads this year – one more than this time last year.
