Collar your pet for registration

CARDINIA Shire Council is reminding residents to register their pets or renew their registration before 10 April.
All dogs and cats over three months old must be registered with the council every year and pets must also be micro-chipped.
Compliance Services Co-ordinator Shannon Maynard said dog or cat owners had a responsibility to register and micro-chip their pets and ensure they complied with regulations.
“The registration fee is a small price to pay to give council the best opportunity to be able to reunite you with your four legged friend if they ever get lost,” he said.
The current fee to register a dog is $35.50 per year and $33 for a cat. Concessions apply to relevant pension/ concessions card holders.
Registration fees also help the council to fund animal management staff to collect and return lost animals, unique registration tags to identify animals, investigations into nuisance complaints such as barking dogs, wandering animals and dog attacks, off leash dog parks and cat trapping programs.
The owner of an unregistered dog or cat over three months old risks receiving a fine from the council.
For the current fees or to download a registration form, visit Cardinia Shire Council’s Pet Registration webpage or call 1300 787 624.
A desexing certificate must be presented to the council with the registration application.
