Hoons caught in the act

TWO probationary drivers were caught speeding, losing control of their cars, fish-tailing and then speeding off again before the eyes of a homebound police officer in Berwick earlier this month.
The pair, a 19-year-old Pakenham man and 19-year-old Gembrook man, were eventually intercepted by the officer, made to surrender their vehicles and charged with dangerous driving offences.
The on-call Major Collision Investigation Unit officer was travelling home along High Street, about 9.30pm on Wednesday 11 May, when she first observed the drivers.
They were stopped ahead at the Gloucester Avenue intersection.
When the lights turned green, two of the cars attempted to accelerate quickly and immediately lost traction in the wet conditions, police said.
The vehicles then maintained this loss of traction and fish-tailed for about 80m.
Police said the drivers continued on the road at high speeds for about 1km, before being intercepted by the officer.
The probationary drivers were served with a notice to surrender their vehicles to the Victoria Police Impound Yard for a period of one month under anti-hoon laws.
Each driver will pay $405 storage cost for their impounded vehicles.
They were also charged on summons to appear at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court for dangerous driving and failing to have proper control of a vehicle.
