AN ELECTED Turnbull government would allocate $1 million towards improving Cardinia sport facilities, including the construction of a skate park in Beaconsfield.
La Trobe MP and election candidate Jason Wood announced a $500,000 commitment towards developments at Holm Park Recreation Reserve, Beaconsfield, and a further $500,000 to complete stage two of the sports pavilion development at Officer Recreation Reserve if his party was elected.
Mr Wood said the money would assist in the development of three ovals, two pavilions, two netball courts, three courts for netball or tennis use, a skate park, a sealed car park, family areas and supporting infrastructure to provide a full service to the Beaconsfield community.
The Officer sport pavilion would serve as a communal function space, he said.
“The skate park will provide a space for young people to meet in a safe environment.
“The developments will also provide the necessary car parking infrastructure needed for a reserve the size of Holm Park,” Mr Wood said.
“The new Officer sports pavilion will be utilised by different community groups – including the Rythdale Officer Cardinia Football Netball Club – for social functions, presentation and award ceremonies, and will be made available for the wider community to hire for bookings.
“The entire Officer community can enjoy a great local place to meet as well as have an even better facility where they can get more active, more often, together.
“It’s great that Cardinia Shire are on board with this and together we’re providing central points for communities to gather and participate in sports, special events and general gatherings.
“These projects will create and update a vital resource for the local community which can be shared by young people and families.”
Beaconsfield Football Club president Gary Valentine welcomed the Holm Park announcement.
“Our club continues to grow every day and we’re glad to see added facilities and other sports joining our ranks too,” Mr Valentine said.
