Midnight armed street robbery

By ANEEKA SIMONIS

A MAN was threatened with a machete before narrowly escaping a punching blow to the head in a late night armed robbery in Pakenham’s back streets over the weekend.
The terrifying two-part attack was carried out by two violent offenders who first hurled abuse at the victim and his mates from within a grey Holden Statesman, and then returned to physically confront the victim with the blade.
Investigators have been told the victim was walking along Cunningham Crescent, Pakenham, with three friends when the thug duo first crept up on them in their Holden about 1am on Sunday 10 July.
The occupants began yelling abuse at the victim from within the car.
The Holden then returned and two men got out of the car, one of them armed with a machete.
The pair made demands for the victim’s possessions but were told the victim had nothing to hand over.
It is believed the second man then ran at the victim and attempted to punch him to the head.
The victim’s cap had fallen off, and one of the men had picked it up before returning to the Holden and fleeing from the scene.
The victim’s cap was recovered a short time later on the Princes Highway, just past McGregor Road.
Nothing else was stolen and no one was injured.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
