Small shop is a big help

Grant recipients shared in more than $48,000 in funding raised in 2015-16.

THE Garfield Community Shop opened its doors in December 2012 and since then has been raising money to support the local community.
This small shop, run solely by volunteers, has been able to contribute a total of $48,636.50 over the 2015/16 financial year in the form of grants and projects.
These funds are raised through the sale of donated items both in the shop and on eBay.
Recently, an afternoon tea was hosted as part of its annual funding dispersal.
Local community organisations who were successful with their funding applications included Tynong Fire Brigade, Garfield Bowling Club, Garfield Junior Stars Football Club, Cannibal Creek Landcare, Bunyip Kindergarten, Garfield Playgroup, Kinders Together, Garfield Uniting Church, Friends of Garfield, Cannibal Creek Pony Club, Hillview Bunyip Aged Care, Longwarry Netball Club, Garfield/Tynong Cricket Club, Garfield Primary School, Garfield Kindergarten, Bunyip Cemetery Trust, Garfield Community Association, Bunyip Tennis Club, and Bunyip Historical Society.
The volunteers at the Garfield Community Shop said they appreciated the support from customers and donors which made the shop such a success.
Anyone who would like to be part of this success by becoming a volunteer can drop into the shop and talk to one of the friendly helpers.
The shop is at 59 Nar Nar Goon-Lonwarry Road, Garfield, and is open 9.30am-4.30pm weekdays, 9.30am-12.30pm Saturdays and is closed on public holidays.
