PARKLEA’S Winter Food Drive has already received more than 150 kilograms – three trolley loads – worth of food donated by generous Cardinia residents.
These items have brought much-needed food to families who have been doing it tough this winter.
The food drive, in collaboration with the 4Cs, will accept donated non-perishable goods such as long life milk, cereal and canned food up until the end of winter.
4Cs general manager Cheryl Daly said she was grateful for the large number of donations thus far.
“Winter can be a difficult time for families impacted by poverty and violence. Providing food is just one of the ways the 4Cs provide support to disadvantaged families in the Cardinia region,” Ms Daly said.
“Many families and individuals who are doing it tough have been impacted by the food drive as they are supplied with healthy, hearty food choices for their families. Over 1000 people per month access food products from the 4Cs.
“The community is making a difference to families in need through Parklea’s initiative. We urge the community to continue to give and make an incredible impact.”
In one year alone, the Pakenham-based charity has donated more than 500 tonnes of food. It also provides shelter, counselling, life skills, and financial relief to help families back on their feet.
Parklea has previously worked with the charity on initiatives such as the Share Your Christmas appeal where residents donated Christmas gifts to less fortunate children.
“We hope that the community continues to support this great initiative. Something as simple as donating a few food items from your shopping bag or pantry will mean a lot for local families in need,” Parklea sales manager Jarod Mills said.
“You can drop off food at the Timbertop Estate sales office or Arena Shopping Centre until the end of August.”
