SECURITY at an elderly woman’s retirement unit has been increased, but police have not yet been able to console the home invasion victim that her intruder has been caught.
An 80-year-old retiree thought she was alone in her Pakenham unit but soon discovered that was not the case when she realised about 8am on Friday 22 July that there was a man inside her house.
The offender fled when the woman screamed by jumping the back fence of her Evergreen Retirement Village unit.
Detectives at Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) have been investigating the case but have not yet identified the culprit.
They described the intruder as Caucasian, aged in his twenties, with brownish coloured hair, of medium build and 180cm tall.
He was wearing a dark coloured zip-up jacket.
Her unit has since been fitted with upgraded security.
Bolts and chains have been fixed to the retiree’s back door – similar to security features already in action at some of the village’s 76 other residential units.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
