BERWICK woman Kristen Leknius was quite literally knocking on death’s door.
Diagnosed with the same cancer that killed Apple’s Steve Jobs, Kristen spent five years fighting – and she won.
Lucky for her, her rare neuroendocrine cancer (NETS) was treated with a revolutionary new radionuclide therapy at the Peter MacCullum Cancer Centre.
It’s been a cause for celebration.
More than $1000 was raised at a cancer fundraiser at Beaconsfield Neighbourhood House on Friday 26 August.
Close to 100 people turned out to hear Kristen share her story and raise funds for the Cancer Council.
Students from Beaconsfield Primary School provided art which decorated the wall and three Grade 6 students performed songs on the ukulele.
Men from the Akoonah Park Men’s Shed also provided live background music.
