A Berwick student has been selected to take part in a space camp at the US Space and Rocket Centre in Alabama next month.
Year 10 Beaconhills College’s Phoebe Hird was excited to be chosen to attend the global program.
The week-long Advanced Space Academy will give Phoebe an “immersive experience” in science, technology, engineering and maths.
Phoebe will participate in simulated astronaut training, including a realistic shuttle mission and the chance to experience what it would be like to walk on the moon, tumbling in a space capsule.
“I am looking forward to doing all of the astronaut activities, especially using the geospace simulators,” she said.
A delighted Phoebe said she had to submit an application for the program, including her school records and leadership positions.
She held the position as Year 9 captain last year and while she was not planning on a ‘space career’, she hoped to pursue studies in the fields of science and possibly marine biology.
