Posthumous award for newspaperman

Chris McPherson started the Biggest Ever Blokes Lunches, which have now raised a combined $3 million for prostate cancer awareness and research.

Shepparton newspaperman Chris McPherson has been posthumously honoured with a Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the media and to prostate cancer research.
Chris started the Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch concept to raise awareness and funding for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia in 2009, not long after being diagnosed.
By the time he lost his battle with the disease in December 2015, the lunches had fanned out to a dozen venues in Victoria, Tasmania and southern New South Wales and raised a combined $3 million for the cause.
He attended the first Cardinia Casey event in 2014.
The three lunches held at the Cardinia Cultural Centre have raised $230,000 to date and last year’s event was booked out 10 weeks prior.
The next Cardinia Casey Biggest Ever Blokes lunch has been scheduled for Friday 1 September.
