Kooweerup Secondary College (KSC) final-year students got behind the wheel recently as part of a program targeting driver behaviour.
Twenty-two Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning students participated in the Motorvation program on Tuesday 27 June, teaching them about the dangers of driving and how to respond in emergency situations on the road.
The day involve an information session on road safety, followed by time in both a driving simulator and vehicle driving under instruction at Kooweerup Recreation Reserve.
The school has participated in the program for the past 11 years, with the Bendigo Bank sponsoring its participation for the past three.
KSC Senior Learning Community Leader Tania Miller said the day was instructive
“Its aim was to make the kids question what kind of driver they are or will be,” Miss Miller said.
“It’s been proven that those aged between 16 and 25 are most likely to have an accident and this program helps the kids test their responses in an emergency situation, if something were to go wrong.”
Student feedback was positive, Ms Miller said, with participants commenting they all had a great time.
All students were presented with a formal certificate of participation at the conclusion of the event.
