Green thumbs, young and old, turned out to plant an assortment of native trees in Harkaway at the weekend as part of a national initiative.
Held on 30 July, the Harkaway tree planting session was one of hundreds of National Tree Day events held across Australia.
Now in its 21st year, Tree Day is promoted by Planet Ark as “an opportunity to do something positive for your local environment and community and to reconnect with nature”.
Harkaway’s session saw children, councillors, community and conservation groups brave the winter chill to “increase native vegetation, improve ecological outcomes for the natural environment, create a sense of place and build on social cohesion”.
To date, more than 3.8 million people across the country have planted 23 million trees and plants.
