Police station works

Long-awaited works have begun on the rebuild of the Cowes Police Station.
Demolition of the old station began at the start of August and construction of a new facility will soon follow.
Police report the building contract has been finalised and a design approved.
However, delays in finalising the contract have meant a longer than planned timeline.
According to police, construction of the new station is now expected to be completed by March 2018.
In the meantime, Cowes police have been operating out of the San Remo Police Station.
Despite the delay, Senior Sergeant Andrew O’Brien said local police were continuing to provide visible patrols, including during the busier summer months.
“As per usual police will be patrolling Phillip Island and Cowes and there will be absolutely no reduction to the number of patrols the Cowes community receives from police,” Senior Sergeant O’Brien said.
“The Cowes Police Station phones are currently diverted from Cowes to San Remo, so any person calling for advice will be able to get through to police.”
