Berwick College is this year marking its ruby anniversary.
The college, which began its time as Berwick High School in 1977, has grown from a school of 113 students to more than 1000.
During its 40 years, the college has expanded its curriculum to include a number of pathways including VCE, VCAL and VET, and a high achievers’ program for gifted students.
“With 113 enrolling in that first year and very few facilities, it has grown into a well-established and vibrant community where thousands of students, including second generations of families, have experienced their secondary education,” Principal Kerri Bolch said.
The school will celebrate its success over the past 40 years with a celebratory dinner on 19 October at Berwick Montuna Golf Club.
Ms Bolch said the night was an opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of past and present staff while current students would reflect on the “incredible investment” that has been made into their lives.
“This year, in reflecting on the growth and success of Berwick College, it is clear that the past provided a strong foundation for the present and for the future,” Ms Bolch said.
The school, she said, had a focus on gaining the best possible outcomes for its students, while supporting the local community.
“Berwick College students continue to thrive and make a difference to the Berwick community and across the world.
“Our staff, parents and council members continue to passionately advocate for young people, for learning and quality education,” Ms Bolch said.
The anniversary dinner will also serve as a fund-raiser for the future Berwick Community Learning and Support Centre.
The proposed centre will provide health and wellbeing support, and connection to specialist partnerships for the college’s students, staff, past students, families and members of the community.
Ms Bolch said she hoped to see the college continue to blossom.
“We are proud of our reputation as an excellent school and the breadth of learning opportunities provided to our students,” she said.
“The college council and staff continue to work together to further develop and consolidate the many pathways and programs on offer here at Berwick College.”
