Counter-terror raids

ASIO officers and anti-terrorism police raided a Berwick property on Wednesday morning following the arrest of a man in Werribee over an alleged New Year’s Eve attack.
That same morning warrants were also executed at residential properties in Tarneit, Coolaroo and Glenroy as part of Operation San Jose.
The operations on 29 November were carried out by the Joint Counter Terrorism Team which consists of officers from Victoria Police, the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO).
Police have not released details of any Berwick arrests or charges.
The raids followed the arrest of a 20-year-old Werribee man just before 3pm on 27 November related to an alleged New Year’s Eve planned terror attack.
The man faced Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on 28 November where he was remanded in custody until 13 March 2018.
Victoria Police and the Australian Federal Police said the threat has been contained and that there was no on-going risk posed by other individuals.
