Cardinia CIU detectives are investigating a burglary at Hungry Jacks in Hallam on 9 January.
Police report an offender used a grinder to force entry into the Princes Highway store at 2am.
It is alleged the offender tried to steal cash before being disturbed by police and running away.
Police have released an image of a person they would like to speak with in relation the matter.
