AFL YARRA RANGES

DIVISION 1 – ROUND 4

Emerald has now lost its past three games since clinching its season-opening win over the Bloods in Healesville.

The Bombers started particularly slowly at home on Saturday at Chandler Reserve – held goalless for the first term, while Woori Yallock slotted five majors by contrast.

In reality, the home side struggled to convert on the scoreboard throughout the first three quarters against an impressive Tigers side which ultimately came away 43-point winners, 14.12 (96) to 7.11 (53).

Brent Moloney slotted three as the only multiple goal-scorer for the Bombers, while Paul White, Jacob Castricum, and Josh Webb all stood strong.

DIVISION 2 – ROUND 4

In the second tier of the Yarra Ranges competition, the Brookers couldn’t recover from their own slow start – trailing by a shade under 50 points at half-time before losing to Yarra Glen by five goals, 15.20 (110) to 12.8 (80).

Marcus Kenny (four goals) and Michael Firrito (three) slotted seven majors between them but it wasn’t enough to give the sixth-placed Gembrook Cockatoo its third win of the season to date.

MORNINGTON PENINSULA NEPEAN

ROUND 6

Devon Meadows couldn’t contain Karingal after quarter time in their clash at Ballam Park on Saturday, 10.17 (77) to 3.8 (26).

The Panthers trailed by just seven points at quarter time after two goals to one in the first term, but could only muster up 2.5 for the remaining three quarters as the home side piled on the pain.

As he has all season, Mat Fletcher stood tall for the visitors.

Down at Bunguyan Reserve, a five goal haul to Luke Jennings inspired Pearcedale to a strong win over Tyabb, 10.11 (71) to 16.13 (109).

Aidan Simmons also contributed four goals in a classy display, while Travis Bravo was also brilliant with three of his own.

GIPPSLAND LEAGUE

ROUND 6

It was a fast finish by Traralgon, but Drouin almost pulled off a brilliant upset on Saturday, 16.10 (106) to 14.10 (94).

The Hawks took a 19-point lead into three quarter time after turning the game on its head with a five goal third quarter, but were overrun by a rampant home side that booted six final term goals.

Star playing assistant Eddie Morris booted four goals for the Hawks in a near best afield display, while Bob McCallum and James McKellar also put in strong showings.

Down at Leongatha, the Parrots gave Warragul an almighty touch up, 21.21 (147) to 6.8 (44).

The Gulls actually lead by 12 points at quarter time, but the Parrots kicked 21 goals to four after quarter time to run away with the three-figure win.

EASTERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

DIVISION 1 – ROUND 6

Rowville recorded a resounding win over Knox on Saturday, 26.16 (172) to 4.11 (35).

Mark Seedsman and Michael Sikora were sublime for the Hawks. Lachlan McDonald (five goals) was prominent up forward.

Noble Park were no match for Vermont, falling 7.12 (54) to 18.9 (117). Ryan Morrison and Luke Nelson were valiant for Noble Park.

SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

DIVISION 2 – ROUND 6

Keysborough remain undefeated, taking care of Hampton, 12.10 (82) to 5.12 (42).

Adam Machnikowski was best for the Burras, while Chris Bryan (four goals) was dangerous up forward.

The Doveton Eagles also kept their unbeaten season alive with a win over Highett, 13.19 (97) to 9.5 (59).

After a terribly slow start, which saw Highett race to a 28-point lead at quarter time, the Eagles booted six goals to none in the second to take a 12-point lead into the main break. Matt Neve and Nicholas Beer were best afield for the Eagles.

DIVISION 3 – ROUND 4

Hallam came roaring home, but it wasn’t enough as South Yarra claimed the win, 9.11 (65) to 8.7 (55). Rory McIvor and Dion Cavallo were best for the Hawks.

Endeavour Hills were in the contest all day, but Ashwood claimed a 6.13 (49) to 5.7 (37) win. Sam McLean was impressive for Endeavour Hills.

Springvale Districts were too strong for Black Rock, running out 10.12 (72) to 2.4 (16) winners. Sam Raru and Stefan Feehan booted four goals each for Springvale Districts.

Hampton Park was wasteful, but it mattered little as the Redbacks demolished Heatherton, 9.16 (70) to 1.3 (9). Daniel Boudoloh and Mitchell Hill were pivotal for the Redbacks.

DIVISION 4 – ROUND 6

Sandown was overrun by Cerberus in Division 4, falling 5.10 (40) to 8.13 (61). The Cobras were led by Nathan Isles and Aaron Woods.

Dandenong put up a valiant fourth quarter effort but couldn’t chase down Lyndhurst, falling 9.9 (63) to 10.17 (77).

Michael Scott, Jayke Hopkins and Nicholas Ford battled hard for the Redlegs, while Palingu Lokupathirage was best for Lyndhurst and Hamish Browning booted four goals.

Lyndale had no answers for Carrum Patterson Lakes. The Pumas fell behind early and couldn’t get back in the game, falling 6.6 (42) to 12.12 (84).

VAFA

DIVISION 2 – ROUND 5

St Johns were soundly beaten by Old Paradians, 4.17 (41) to 16.13 (109). Keith Ash and Brendan Ash were best, but inaccurate kicking was the story of the day for St Johns.
