REVIEW – ROUND 8

Catani dominated from start to finish to record a resounding 17.8 (110) to 6.10 (46) win over Neerim Neerim South at home.

In a day that was all about Owen Fitzpatrick, the big man didn’t disappoint and put on a show for the Catani faithful.

Needing seven majors to claim his magical 1,000th goal, Fitzpatrick had four to half time, but the Cats sent players back into the hole and double-teamed him in the second half.

It took until the final few minutes, but Fitzpatrick gave the crowd what they wanted when he took a strong grab and scored the set shot for the milestone goal.

He finished the day with eight majors and 1,001 career goals in a typical dominant display, while Nic Visser (three goals) and Tom Keily were impressive.

Longwarry, meanwhile, made light work of the Tigers with a dominant second half to claim a big 6.9 (45) to 18.18 (116) win at the showgrounds in Lang Lang.

The Crows outscored the Tigers by nine goals in the second half as Daniel Fry ran riot up forward, booting nine goals in a stellar performance. Lang Lang simply had no answers for Fry as he slotted them from everywhere.

Nick Redley and the Lehman brothers continued their fine form, while Josh Brown and Mark Anderson battled hard for Lang Lang.

Meanwhile, Nyora remains unbeaten after eight rounds, taking care of Ellinbank, 6.7 (43) to 13.8 (86).

The Saints’ gun forwards; Ilan Osman (six goals) and Ben Schultz (three goals), were too much for the Bankers defence, while Shaun Beecroft and Nick Carrigy were vital.

Warragul Industrials overcame a slow start to comprehensively defeat Nilma Darnum, 11.7 (73) to 16.16 (112).

Leading by just three points at the final change, the Dusties piled on six goals and held the Bombers goalless in the final term to run out big winners.

Shane Brewster (six goals) and Tye Holland were best for the Dusties, while Jack Ruddell and James Bourke were valiant for the Bombers.

Poowong continued its hot form with another win – the Magpies’ fourth in a row – over Buln Buln, 8.11 (59) to 10.7 (67).

The Lyrebirds jumped out to an early lead, but the likes of Trevor Hooker (five goals), Jayden Sullivan and Michael Harris were sublime for the Magpies as they fought their way back to claim a gritty win.
