CFA were called to the scene of a gas line rupture at St Catherines Catholic Primary School in Berwick, where two people were harmed, according to a CFA spokesperson.

The gas line rupture consequently caused a building on the school campus to explode into flames at around 11.40am on Monday.

Emergency services are surrounding the 15 by 20 metre square affected building to prevent the fire from spreading.

Due to school holidays no children were present on campus.

One worker was injured during the explosion and has been taken to hospital.

A second worker is dealing with minor smoke inhalation.

About 12 emergency service vehicles are working to stop the gas leak.
