Recess and lunch time is about to get a whole lot more entertaining at Bayles Regional Primary School.

The newest addition to the school’s toy box is a custom built race track for students of all ages to enjoy.

Made even more special, it was created by former student Max Kelly as a parting gift, who has since begun high school at Drouin Secondary College.

Principal Alison Andrews said seeing the kids get so much joy out of the project has been excellent.

“Max wanted something the kids could have fun playing with, something a bit different because we’ve got a lot of sporting equipment and the sand pit gets crowded, so he wanted something else the kids could enjoy,” Ms Andrews said.

“He worked out a way to make one with plastic pellets so that way it would be a lot easier to get into the crowd and to keep it longer lasting.

“We sit on it, we play with it, and we’ve had lots of donations of bits and pieces that the kids can use on it.”

The track is open to all 155 students of the school, with everyone from the preppies to the grade sixers getting involved in the fun.

This isn’t the first time a member of the school has generously. The Kilpatrick family built a ‘mud kitchen’ over the summer holidays.

“The mud kitchen was another project that was kindly created by one of our families,” Ms Andrews said.

“It’s become very popular, the kids are always spending their recess and lunch out here in the kitchen.

“It really is amazing to see families getting so involved with the school.”

The school’s next big project will involve creation a range of animals to be placed around the school, including a ladybug, a chicken and a frog – made entirely out of tyres.
