Cardinia Shire Council has confirmed they’re investigating a tragic dog attack on Windermere Boulevard in Pakenham which has left a beloved pet Dachshund dead.

Kashila Chintamunnee took to social media in search of a woman whose dog allegedly killed her four-year-old pet, Coco on Tuesday 5 November, about 11am.

“It was the most traumatic thing I’ve experienced in my entire life,” Ms Chintamunnee told the media.

In her Facebook post, which has since been shared over 350,000 times, she said her dog had died following a fight with another dog, believed to be a Staffy.

It’s understood Ms Chintamunnee’s dog wasn’t on a leash when it ran up to the Staffy, who was walking on a lead at the time.

CCTV footage shows a Labrador and two Dachshunds running over to the dog after allegedly escaping their property through an open gate.

It’s believed the woman walking the Staffy let go of the leash, lifting her son onto a picnic table for protection.

The Gazette spoke with the husband of the woman walking the dog which is allegedly responsible for killing Coco and said the full story hadn’t been told on social media.

“My wife and son were walking our dog when three dogs off leash came out of nowhere and started attacking my dog that was on a lead and had a harness,” he said.

“My wife was trying to separate our dog when an owner of the other dogs came over running, yelling at her.”

Sadly, Coco’s injuries were too severe according to Ms Chintamunnee who told the Cranbourne Leader that the dog had bitten “too deep” into Coco’s main vessel and he lost too much blood.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the incident was a matter for local councils.

Cardinia Shire Council was unable to comment on whether the dog had been seized or had a history of similar incidents.

“Specific animal registration details cannot be disclosed due to privacy,” a council spokesperson said.

“Council is currently investigating the incident and is unable to provide any information while the matter is under investigation.

“Anyone with information is encouraged to contact council.”
