A 2.2 magnitude earthquake has briefly shaken the south-eastern suburbs with some residents as far out as Berwick and Pakenham feeling the rumble.

Seismologists at the Seismology Research Centre recorded the quake which occurred approximately nine kilometres north east of Dandenong and 21 kilometres west of Emerald just before 2.30pm on Thursday 28 November.

A spokeswoman from the centre told the Gazette they received reports from suburbs about 19 kilometres east of the epicentre.

“It’s quite a small one and it’s unusual for people to feel it unless they’re in bed, resting on the couch or on upper floors of housing,” the spokeswoman said.

“For people who were just going about their day, they wouldn’t have felt it.”
