The 2020 school captains from seven secondary colleges across the Diocese of Sale have converged as part of their appointment to a leadership role.

St Francis Xavier College in Beaconsfield has announced Taylah Worland and Zac McMenamin as the school’s newest captains, thanks to their “good academic rigour” and positive contribution to the community.

Taylah and Zac joined students from the other six colleges across Gippsland at the Catholic Education Office in Warragul to officially meet and discuss what it meant to be a leader at a Catholic school.

The event provided an opportunity to form connections among peers and create contacts which can be called upon over the course of their final schooling year.

“This session helped me understand my role as a leader within my school and has given me greater clarity on the impact I can have within my community as I continue my learning journey,” Zac said.

Zac said the highlight of the day was engaging in open dialogue with his peers and a sharing session with Bishop of Sale Patrick O’Regan.

Diocese of Sale director of Catholic Education Maria Kirkwood said the new captains’ involvement in youth ministry will give them a chance to collaborate and experience a sense of belonging in a diverse and hope-filled community.

“We encourage all students to become engaged and successful learners,” Ms Kirkwood said.

“By participating in youth events across the Diocese, students can join with their peers to draw on the life-giving traditions and spirituality of the Catholic faith in a nurturing environment.”
