Cardinia Shire Council is in the process of upgrading a number of intersections along the Princes Highway in a bid to “support increasing population growth and land development”.

The mass project will see a number of intersections upgraded including Brunt Road, Bayview Road, Tivendale Road, McMullen Road, Arena Parade and Thewlis Road.

The intersections earmarked for upgrade as part of the first stage of the project are Beaconsfield Avenue/Glismann Road and O’Neill Road.

A council spokesperson confirmed that the detailed designs of both intersections had officially commenced.

Cardinia Shire Council will fund $8.5 million over 2022-23 and $7.9 million over 2023-24 toward the projects, with the Federal Government contributing a total of $17.8 million.

The Cardinia Shire continues to be one of the state’s fastest-growing municipalities, with an average of six new households moving into the shire every day.

It’s hoped these intersection upgrades will reduce congestion and travel time and accommodate increased traffic and development into the future.

Cardinia Shire Council’s liveable communities manager Tracey Parker told the Gazette the council is working with government, organisations and developers to facilitate and ensure the delivery of community infrastructure and services.

“Council is focused on ensuring the best planning outcomes for our community, to ensure infrastructure development keeps pace with population growth and to create the most liveable Shire for our community,” Ms Parker said.

“This involves balancing the need to appropriately manage population growth through planned land development, whilst preserving community and regional character, and protecting vital agricultural land.

“Council also continues to advocate to the State and Federal Governments for new and improved facilities and services that are within their sphere of influence, such as major arterial roads and public transport, the provision of new schools with sufficient onsite parking, hospitals, and more.

“Right across the state, our population is growing, and all levels of government are working hard to plan for this future growth.”
