Pakenham is set to receive 16 new social housing dwellings from funding provided by the State Government.

Through the government’s Social Housing Growth Fund, The Haven Foundation will help to ensure everyone in the Cardinia shire community has a safe and stable home.

Member for Bass, Jordan Crugnale, announced on Wednesday 20 May, that the government will deliver more than 780 new social housing dwellings across the state.

She said that tenders for the design and construction of 16 units in Pakenham is underway, with construction expected to commence this November and works to be completed by October 2021.

The new units will be built at 23 Cumberland Drive in Pakenham.

“This fund means we are on the way to having more social and affordable housing for people seeking to escape family violence, homelessness and life on the streets including right here in the Cardinia shire area of the Bass electorate,” she said.

The fund was established by the government in 2018 and has created an investment pipeline for new social housing.

Over the first five years of the fund, the State Government aims to create up to 2200 new dwellings and leases for people who need accommodation across the state.

“Everyone deserves the safety and security of a roof over their head,” Housing Minister Richard Wynne said.

“This program will deliver more than 780 units to make sure people sleeping rough, at risk of homelessness, and those escaping family violence.”

Eligible community housing organisations have access to low-interest loans in combination with the Social Housing Growth Fund, to help them deliver much-needed big social housing developments.
