Two mini ponies with a whole lot of personality are providing much needed joy during Stage 4 restrictions.

While most mundane outdoor activities are off limits, thankfully, taking your pony for a stroll is not.

Berwick mother and daughter Leanne and Alisha Hornsby began taking their peculiar pets – Gypsy and Hunny – on daily adventures around their neighbourhood.

“It just brings a bit of joy to people. You can see the cars slowing down when they realise there actually is a mini pony walking on a lead,” Leanne laughed.

“They’re just great pets, really easy to look after and they’re fun to play with too.”

Leanne compared her little gallopers to large dogs, and even made the controversial call to say they were better pets.

“Like dogs, we can take them anywhere and the only difference is they do a bigger poo, so we just make sure to carry a bigger bag,” she laughed.

The friendly “kegs on legs” have proven to be more than just one-trick ponies, providing entertainment and laughs throughout the pandemic.

“They’ve been a great therapy throughout Covid,” Leanne said.
