More than 700 residents across the Gembrook electorate have thrown their support behind Casey and Cardinia’s small businesses in MP Brad Battin’s annual Christmas competition.

The ’12 Days of Christmas’ competition encouraged the community to ‘Think Local, Support Local’ this festive season, for a chance to win vouchers at their favourite stores.

In total, over 130 businesses – across a range of sectors including hospitality, retail, gyms and machinery – received a mention.

Nominations were close, but the title was taken by the ‘Hairy Dog Cafe’ in Gembrook.A trio of Beaconsfield businesses ‘One Fine Day’, ‘Dwyer’s Seafood’ and ‘Amitie Hair’ rounded out the top four.

Mr Battin said the overwhelming support from the community was “incredible”.

“Our local businesses have had a very challenging year, and to know they have the support of their community and customers means a lot to them as they begin their long road to recovery,” he said.

“I hope this competition highlights the importance of backing local businesses, especially during the festive season and encouraging more people to ‘Think Local, Support Local’.”
