A young man has been charged with a string of offences following a serious assault at a popular hotel in Kooweerup, which left a man with critical head injuries.

Emergency services were called to the Royal Hotel on Station Street at about 8.30pm on Thursday 17 December following reports that two men had been involved in a fight.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known.

A 39-year-old Pakenham man was flown to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition with head injuries, an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman confirmed.

He is understood to have since been discharged, according to an Alfred Health spokesman on Monday 21 December.

The alleged attacker, a 23-year-old Dalmore man was arrested at the scene.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman has since revealed the young man has been charged in relation to the serious assault.

He was charged with four offences including recklessly causing serious injury, intentionally causing injury and unlawful assault.

The man was bailed and is set to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 10 May 2021.

A Royal Hotel spokesman said he had “no comment to make” given the incident was still subject to a police investigation.
