It was a bad start to the day on our roads on Thursday 13 May, with emergency responders attending the scene of two separate accidents.

The first accident occurred in Nar Nar Goon North along the Princes Highway at about 9.18am, when a vehicle seemingly veered off the road and crashed into some bushes on the side, near the corner of Snell Road.

Both the driver and passenger from the vehicle were treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to Dandenong Hospital via road ambulance.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said that a woman in her 70s had been taken to hospital in a stable condition with upper body injuries, whilst another woman in her 50s was also taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Then at about 10.15am, emergency services were called to another car accident, this time in Caldermeade along the South Gippsland Highway.

A spokesperson from the Pakenham SES said that a car had reportedly “hit barriers” and “spun around” while driving on the highway.

It was initially believed that the driver was trapped in the vehicle, but when the SES arrived on scene, the driver had been freed.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said that it looked like the driver had made a lucky escape, as paramedics assessed one person at the scene, but they did not require treatment or transport to hospital.

These crashes have come not even 24 hours after a serious collision on the Pakenham Bypass, that saw a man airlifted to hospital and caused traffic chaos in Pakenham on Wednesday afternoon.

Police are alarmed at the “devastating” amount of road trauma that’s been recorded in Cardinia since the beginning of the year, and are urging drivers to take care on the roads.
