With the uncertainty of Covid-19 and the weather gods, the Lang Lang Beef Cattle spectacular at the Lang Lang Show pushed ahead and held its popular youth education afternoon on Friday 14 January.

Young cattle enthusiasts were privileged to receive tuition from some of the country’s best cattle fitters and judges.

The Cattle Shop sponsored the event which saw participants from all around Victoria and as far as Cowra in NSW attend.

They made halters, prepared cattle for the show ring and then went on to judging their own select class of cattle.

The competition started with Georgia Van Rysbergen- who turned seven last week, winning the first event with Graham Duggan in second and Ben Glover in third.

Local handler Teegan Neutze from Cardinia won the next class of handlers while Cowra entrant, Jada Buchan took out the senior class.

It was Teegan that stepped up in the championship with her own heifer being sashed champion Handler for the show.

Tables turned for the junior judging though when Jada was crowned Champion Junior Judge and notably Jada’s younger brother winning his section of the judging too.

The next morning on Saturday 15 January, there was a buzz of activity for the exhibitors preparing their cattle for Luke Spencer to cast an eye over later that morning.

Taking out the Junior Champion Heifer, Grand Champion Female and Supreme Champion Exhibit was Christie Fuller and her entry, Diamond Ms Reckoning R447.

The judge was almost speechless and simply described as WOW! The 15 month old heifer was also named Supreme exhibit six months earlier at her first outing at Dubbo Show.

Diamond Angus made the nine hour trip worth while taking out the Senior Champion Female with Diamond Miss Stainless N427 and Junior and Grand Champion Male with Diamond Redemption R423.

Hanging Rock Speckle Park had a successful show coming away with Senior Champion Male and local cattle breeders Alan and Jill Furborough Welsh Black Bull winning Reserve Champion Male with two year old- Buchanan Park Quality Mack.

Next generation breeders Sianna and Jayde Grylls of EJ Angus Stud exhibited EJ Therase and EJ Ella respectively in their heifer classes, but it was the pair of heifers where the twins presented their heifers again that the judge couldn’t go past, winning the class and the Agri- Gene voucher.

A great day was wrapped up with a barbecue lunch supplied by Warialda Belted Gallaway Beef.
