Art Show Pakenham will be back in full swing this year with an exciting opening night gala to be held Friday 27 May.

Held at the Cardinia Cultural Centre from 7pm, opening night will include the Wearable Art Parade fashion show- featuring a huge 17 entries.

The night also includes the announcement of all the major prize winners and entertainment by celtic harpist Elizabeth Sutherland.

Tickets for opening night can be booked through TryBooking at $25 a head.

The special category this year is Art in Motion. Artists have been challenged to make their art move.

This category has attracted great interest from videographers, tech heads and artists using clever technology to make their art move. They even have an entry from Scotland.

Event coordinator Jillian Ronald said the calibre of entries was mindblowing.

“I have had a sneak peek at the entries and they are very cool,“ she said.

“I am glad I am not the judge trying to pick the winners.”

General viewing is every day from Saturday 28 May until 12 June, open from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free, but a donation is appreciated.

If you don’t like crowds, come on a Monday when the centre is quiet.

Judges this year are Goose from Good Games/Spawn Point handling the digital component and Jo Reitze, a fellow of the Victorian Artists Society and award-winning artist.

She takes on the challenge of sorting out the winners from over 300 artworks that include all styles and mediums of art, including sculptures, traditional and contemporary art.

Jo will also have 11 of her artworks on display.

$7000 prize money is up for grabs and prizes include Best in Show, Silver and Bronze medals, Art in Motion, Local Artist, Best Small Artwork, President’s Award, Young Artist, Highly Commended and People’s Choice.

The fabulous gift shop will be open and is the perfect place to buy a unique gift. All the items for sale are made by the artists and nothing is priced over $50.

This is a once-a-year event, don’t miss out! Come and support Arts and Culture in Cardinia.
