THE hunter has become the hunted. Bunyip has cruised past Cora Lynn in a rematch of last year’s EDFL decider – even if no one internally on either side wanted to call it a “rematch”.

But, more significantly, the Bulldogs snapped the Cobras 28-game undefeated run that stretched back to Round 18, 2014 – a two-goal loss to local rivals, Nar Nar Goon.

Small forward Matt Ross was nothing short of sensational, finishing with a seven-goal haul as Brad Walker’s side downed Cora Lynn 16.15 (111) to 7.16 (58).

The Cobras were within 10 points late in the second term before the Bulldogs responded with a run of goals that established momentum firmly in their favour. The second half – through sheer relentless pressure and a consistency of effort right across the ground – went emphatically the home side’s way.

Though the game was only a Round 6 home and away clash worth four points, the result carries more significance than that – putting the Bulldogs, the competition’s new benchmark, in the cross-hairs of every other EDFL side, including Cora Lynn.

In the SEFNL, Narre Warren upset Cranbourne thanks to a vintage display from league star Michael Collins. He had 13 touches and three marks in the second term – leading by example in a memorable win for the Magpies. After the game, Narre Warren coach Heath Black described the result as one of the best wins he’s ever been involved as a coach.
