DEEP CREEK

Harry Elyasie has been the most consistent player at Deep Creek Golf Club over the last two months and capped off that fine run of form with a win in the July Monthly Medal on Saturday.

Elyasie braved the cold conditions to score 40 points off his six handicap, equivalent to a two-over par 74 off the stick.

Elyasie has recently worked hard on his swing under the tutelage of teaching pro Mark Shaw and his hard work is paying off, being a regular at the top of the leader boards.

Elyasie needed to play well on Saturday with club stalwart Rod Walker (22) keeping him honest just two shots back on 38 points.

Elyasie and Walker were the only two players to play to their handicaps on Saturday, with Matthew Boon (26), Craig Clissold (12) and James Dimtsas (18) being next best with 34 points.

The rundown then included John McDonald (19) and Darren Grayson (10)on 33, Matt Lloyd (8), Neil Atchison (20), Murray O’ Dwyer (14), Martin Bukin (35), Jack Scarborough (14) and Peter Reilly (10) 32, Robert North (23), Alex Blanck (21), Rob Nobelius (14), Frankie Chiu (13), Roger Parker (13) and Steven Smith (12)31, with Tym Davey (3), Bryan Clydesdale (10), Mick Boyd (14), Craig Debono (32), Levi Sua (11) and Shane Franzi (19) rounding out the scorers in the 30-point bracket.

The Ladies battled it out on Thursday with Suzanne Van Strien (10) winning the top prize with 35 points, a great round of golf considering her low handicap.

Carol Beard (26) was next best with 33 points and then came Yvonne Smith (21) and Leanne Barker (34 )31, Sue Nelson (41) 30, Norma Crebbin (39) 29, Leah Barker (25) 26, Liz Garvey (39), Anne Donovan (35) and Shirley McGrath (30) 24, Beverley Clymo (48) 21, and Helen Aurish (38) on 20 points.

Daryl O’Grady (26) had the best round of the week last Wednesday when he scored 41 points to score a four-shot victory over the rest of the field.

John Kingman (21) broke his handicap with 37 points, with Kel Trickey (27), James Dimtsas (17) and Theo Van Roy (18) scoring 35. Scott Irwin (16), Rex Jobling (26), Ross Maclean (15), Brett Nowlan (12) and John Piggott (25) scored 34, while Dean Jones (14), Kevin Sutton (34), Timothy Pratt (8) and Murray O’ Dwyer (12) played plenty of good shots on their way to 33 points.

Nick Gray won Sunday’s stableford competition (7) with 34 points, winning by two shots from Matthew Hogan (16)32.

Brett Nowlan (12) was a long way back in third on 25 points with Glenn Rees (10) 24 and Shaun Hegarty (18) 23 rounding out the top five.

GARFIELD

THE TWO PETERS ARE BETTER THAN ONE

It was very nice weather to be having a game on both Thursday and Saturday for this time of the year, even though Saturday barely registered double figures on the temperature gauge.

This week is the story of the two Peters, both Johnson and Lazarus whom have both put together two weeks of hot form performances.

First of all Johnson has won the B Grade events for the last two Thursday’s with scores of 36 and 40 points as well as finishing runners up last Saturday with another 35 points.

Whilst Lazarus has done similar with wins for the C Grade events for the last two Thursdays with scores of 40 points and 35 points. Well done gents.

Thursday attracted a very good field, the biggest of the year, with a total of 76 players attending with the A Grade winner being Greg Macklin on a count back from Mark Andolfatto with a round of 36 points. A final score down to a count back of 32 points was required to get a ball down the line.

Next Thursday is D Day for both Johnson and Lazarus as both gents try to emulate Rick Falcone by winning the three events over the three weeks. Quite a few have tried but have come up short.

Saturday was Monthly Medal Day with another good size field of 100 turning out with Mark Cousin taking out the win in a three-way count back from Craig Hunter and Bob Collins with a final score of nett 68.

Grant McLure had the best A Grade scratch round of 79 whilst Craig Cousin, having a good form run, had the B Grade scratch win with 84. Michael Berger won the C Grade scratch with an 89 whilst the aforementioned Cousin won the D Grade scratch with a score of 91.

A final score of nett 74 was needed to win a ball down the line. Scoring birdies on the par threes proved to be a difficult task as just the total of seven were scored for the day.

On Monday a field of 26 presented with the veteran John Scale getting another A Grade win with a round of 36 points playing off his mark of 15 whilst his playing partner Des Kerr got the B Grade win with a score of 33 points playing off his mark of 19. All players are reminded to check the clubs face book page for next week’s event type.
