Cranbourne first-gamers enjoy victory

CRANBOURNE BOWLS

Cranbourne recorded its first win for the season with a very solid performance at home against a strong Dandenong Club.

Club coach Lyn Quigg gathered his team before the game and impressed upon them that a win was a must at home and that a key to success was to get off to a good start.

The game was of high standard with Cranbourne eventual winners by nine shots.

Meanwhile two new bowling debutants, Michael Schwab and Jacki Warner, played their first game of Pennant and were fortunate enough to be on winning sides.

Another new bowler Anne Munro is hoping to play her first game in the New Year.

Last Tuesday was the start of mid-week bowls and it was great to see everyone back bowling again.

Skip Jay Tootell was very pleased with the performance of his rink of Tony Collins, Graeme Wood and Lynne Wood, who is in career best form. The team got away to a good start and never looked back to go on and win by 14 shots.

Skip Doug Boggie and his team were struggling early but they fought it out until the end to assure overall victory to Cranbourne.

Cranbourne ended the day with two rinks up and two rinks down and a final winning margin by nine shots.

Cranbourne 81 (14 points) defeated Dandenong Club 72 (4 points)

Experienced skip Peter Elgar handled the conditions at Edithvale very well but unfortunately the other three rinks had a difficult day losing by 21 shots.

Peter Elgar and his team of Gary Farrington, Adam Hrisovergi and Greg Jones won by 12 shots.

The fast green conditions at the fantastic new stadium at Narre Warren were not kind to Cranbourne who were soundly defeated.

Skip Rob Sorensen had another great day winning by six shots thanks to the good form of his team, Scott De Piazza, Dermot McConville and Sandra Mueller.

Debutante bowler Jacki Warner was in the winning side with skip Sofio Rati.

Peter Colthup is enjoying his bowls winning by 21 shots with his team mates Chris Stevenson, Sam Greco and new bowling debutante Michael Schwab.

Skip Lois Brock was in great form supported by team mates Stan Myers, Jim Williams and Maree Taylor winning by 16 shots but unfortunately that was not enough and Cranbourne lost on the day by nine shots.

Cranbourne found the conditions at the RSL a little difficult and they could not adapt going down by 39 shots on a day to forget.

All three rinks had a fantastic day especially all three Skips: – John Kent, John Gardner and Peter Colthup who had a combined winning margin of 79 shots.

Cranbourne 4 travelled to Cardinia Waters and despite two rinks up they lost by nine shots on the day. Skip Liz Hughes was in great form and acknowledged by her team mates of Steve Bakker, David McMaster and Bob Belamy.
