Pumas too strong for Rebels

DIV 3 FIRSTS

Pakenham v North Coburg – 15-6 win

Pumas Div 3 firsts defeated North Coburg Rebels Baseball Club 15-6 on Sunday thanks in part to Mitchell Lording, who drove in four runners. Lording drove in runs on a home run in the second and a single in the fourth.

Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. Pumas collected 10 hits and North Coburg Rebels Baseball Club had eight.

Pumas got things moving in the second inning, when an error scored one run, then notched six runs in the seventh inning. The rally was led by walks by Shaun Fahy and Max Hunter, a sac fly by Jesse Hunter, a groundout by Darren Reeves, and an error on a ball put in play by Lording.

Tim Bellerby was on the pitcher’s mound for the Pumas. The ace went four innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out seven.

Andy Karp was on the mound for North Coburg, allowing eight hits and nine runs over five innings, striking out four. Craig Learmonth threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Pumas socked one home run on the day. Lording had a long ball in the second inning.

Danny Cannizzaro, Fahy, and Lording each collected multiple hits, with Cannizzaro leading with three hits in four at bats. The Pumas stole 12 bases during the game as four players stole more than one. Fahy led the way with three.

North Coburg collected eight hits, with Learmonth and Karp each racking up multiple hits for the Rebels.

DIV 3 SECONDS

Pakenham v North Coburg – 38-0 win

The Pumas seconds Div 3 defeated North Coburg Rebels Baseball Club 38-0 on Sunday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. R Hector struck out Aiden Doria to finish off the game.

Greg McCormick collected four hits in five at-bats to help lead the Pumas to victory. McCormick tripled in the first, singled in the second, homered in the third, and doubled in the fourth to complete the cycle.

The Pumas got things started in the first inning when Daniel Taylor tripled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring three runs.

The Pumas tallied 17 runs in the fourth inning. Big bats were led by Hector, Scott Dale, Wayne Porter, Ethan Hamilton, Hector, and Dale again, all driving in runs in the frame.

Justin Mazurek was on the hill for the Pumas and the ace allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out three.

Tsionis was on the mound for North Coburg. Tsionis went two-and-a-third of the innings, allowing 21 runs on 14 hits and striking out one. Daniel Friedman threw one and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.

The Pumas smacked one home run on the day, with McCormick hitting a homer in the third inning.

The Pumas totalled 28 hits. Dale, McCormick, Taylor, Hector, Porter, and Hough all collected multiple hits for Pumas. Dale led Pumas with five hits in seven at bats. Pumas didn’t commit a single error in the field. Hamilton had four chances in the field, the most on the team.

WOMEN’S DIV 3 SOUTH

Pakenham v Berwick – 10-7 win

Our Div 3 South Women’s headed off to Berwick on Saturday and what a close game it was finishing with a 10-7 Pumas win!

Our women got things started in the first inning with seven runs to just one run for Berwick.

Tuhi Ngaheu led things off on the mound lasting for five innings, allowing 10 hits and seven runs while striking out two, with Maddy Currie behind the plate for four innings doing a fantastic job and even caught a runner stealing home for the second time this season! Sammie Featherby stepped in for the fifth inning doing a wonderful job as a relief also for the second time this season.

To kick things off for the ladies in defence in the first inning was Carly Langham at third base with an assisted put-out with Emily at first base. Great catch by Jo Boyle at short stop and third out was an unassisted out by Emily at first. Emily did an awesome job playing first base for the first time this season, with three amazing catches throughout the game and a put-out with Tuhi covering first base.

Ladies were able to shut Berwick out in the second inning, before they started scoring runs in the last three innings.

Annie-Rose Carter and Tuhi managed one hit each, Carly Langham scored two RBI’s as well as Annie-Rose. Pumas stole seven bases throughout the game, with Jessica Moulding leading the way!

Berwick had a pitcher change, which definitely changed things up for Pumas, but still earning three runs in the second inning before shutting us out completely for the remaining three innings.

Ripper of a game for the ladies keeping the plays tight and taking their second win for the season! Next Saturday the ladies are off to Chelsea against Bonbeach for Round-5 before facing Berwick again in Round-6 at home.

Pakenham/Berwick v Malvern/Upwey/Blackburn – 21-6 win

There were runs aplenty on Sunday as Pakenham/Berwick U16’s defeated Malvern Upwey Blackburn 21-6.

Malvern Upwey Blackburn got on the board in the first inning with a grounded out, scoring one run.

Pakenham/Berwick U16’s tallied seven runs in the second inning. The offensive firepower by Pakenham/Berwick U16’s was led by Cooper, Liam, Jacob, and Ethan, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Malvern Upwey Blackburn scored three runs in the third inning, scoring its runs on an in-the-park-home-run.

Cooper took the win for Pakenham/Berwick U16’s Metro. The righty surrendered four runs on five hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out seven. Liam threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Pakenham/Berwick U16’s Metro totalled 11 hits in the game. Copper and Mason each had multiple hits for Pakenham/Berwick U16’s. Cooper led Berwick Pakenham U16’s Metro with three hits in four at bats. Pakenham/Berwick U16’s tore up the base paths, as five players stole at least two bases. Jasper led the way with two.

JUNIOR LEAGUE

Pakenham v Chelsea – 1-15 loss

Junior league had a 15-1 loss to Chelsea at Pakenham. The kids struggled to hit against some very solid pitching, kids are slowly building confidence and starting to come together as a team.
