CRANBOURNE BOWLS

The top side on Saturday went down by just one shot against Heathmont which could have huge consequences for finals hopes.

The second and third sides were soundly defeated but the fourth side thrashed Cheltenham by a massive 44 shots.

Our Midweek bowls top side had another great win at home this time against Churchill Waverley Golf.

This round of bowls ended with a week of wins and losses entering the business end of the pennant season.

• Side 1 – Division 2 Sec 5

After the highs of last week Cranbourne were faced with fierce opposition and the game was in the balance right down to the last bowl.

With three rinks already finished for the day it was down to Cranbourne on the last end to try and pick up three shots to win or two shots to draw.

Skip Jammie Corney was already having a good day and was 11 shots up on his rink but had the unenvious task of having to play the last bowl of the day.

His team mates waited in anticipation as Jammie put down a great last bowl that gave him the shot but unfortunately he lost the measure to pick up two shots.

What a game but what a great disappointment for Cranbourne to be so close yet so far away.

Skip Jammie Corney and his crew of Joe Byrne, John Stanley and Matt Stevens were in great form and won by 12 shots.
