GARFIELD GOLF

At last…finally a decent dump of rain came through the course on Friday evening and early Saturday morning and stopped just in time for the March Monthly Medal.

Gary Vitiritti broke the shackles with an excellent round of nett 65, playing off his mark of 14, to win the medal by the three shots from Brett Dwyer and a further shot back to Barrie Cousin in third place.

Ray Pund continues on with his excellent summer/autumn form by coming in with an A Grade best scratch score of 74 playing off his mark of just six.

Brett Dwyer’s 83 off the stick got the B Grade best scratch whilst Jim Jenkins won the C Grade scratch with a round of 94.

The highlight of the day – it was a big one – was the magnificent eagle scored by Ian Hopper on the par-four 18th.

Hopper smashed his drive some 260 metres on the 390-metre hole then struck his eight iron perfectly straight into the hole. This is the first time in many a year that this has been achieved.

On Thursday a field of 57 presented for the regular stableford competition and was played in fine conditions with most of the tees off the full markers.

Greg Needham broke a long run of outs to win the A Grade event with a tally of 37 points to win by one point from Jim Accettura.

Greg Noonan had the day’s best round with a B Grade-winning score of 39 points to defeat Des Kerr by one point whilst Graeme Martin, having a good form patch, got the C Grade victory with a round of 37 points defeating Barrie Cousin and Don Stark in the process.

A final score of 33 points or better was good enough to get a ball down the line.

David Churchill had the top score of the week with a round of 41 points to win Monday’s stable ford event.

This Saturday is the 27-hole King Trophy event and the week after that is the annual Colliver Trophy which is a Four-Ball Mixed Aggregate Stableford event played from 10.30am onwards.
