DEEP CREEK GOLF CLUB

Strong autumn winds greeted players with a stiff head breeze on the first hole at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday as players battled it out for prime position in round one of the rescheduled 2021 Club Championships.

The March Monthly Medal was also up for grabs with Colin Maclean (14) the only player in the field to break his handicap, winning B Grade and the Monthly Medal with a nett score of one-under 71.

Tony Gray (12) claimed A Grade with a nett score of 75, while the C Grade winner was Gary Clymo (24) on exactly the same score.

Runners up for the day were A Grade; Suzanne Van Strien (9) nett 76, B Grade; John McDonald (21) nett 74, and C Grade Duncan Campbell (29) with a nett 76.

Down the lines went to Jarrod Leontini 74, Mick Boyd, Brian Webster and Murray O’Dwyer 75, John Hutcheon 76, and Grant Wilson, Theo Van Roy, Matt Boon, Stephen Northcott, David Nagel, Leon Mateariki and Shane Franzi with nett 77’s.

Club Championship Round 1 Leaders (Stroke)

A Grade: Harry Elyasie, David Nagel 84, Tony Gray 87.

B Grade: Colin Maclean 85, Murray O’Dwyer 88, Mick Boyd 90.

C Grade: Gary Clymo 99, Brenton Hollingworth 104, Duncan Campbell 105.

The Mid-Week Monthly Medal went up for grabs on Wednesday with Kevin Sutton (35) winning a five-way countback to take the medal with a score of 72 nett.

The A Grade winner was John Curtin (16) with a nett 72 from runner up John Pattison (16). Sutton (35) won B Grade with his nett 72 on a countback from Doug Barrot (34).

Down the lines went to Jimmy Pari 72, David McMahon, Colin Crowle, Rex Ryan and Rob Nobelius 73, Tony Gray, Chris Dalton, Murray O’Dwyer and Andrew Hale 74, and Tony Penney, Rod Walker, Harry Elyasie and Roger Parker 75.

The Supercomp Back 9 winner was Kevin Sutton with 33 nett and nearest the pin went to John Pattison (2.31m) on the second.

The Ladies also played for medal glory on Thursday with Carol Beard taking home the medal and also being the round two Silver Spoon winner.

Beard (24) scored 76 nett to win on a countback from Yvonne Barrot with down the lines going to Kay Jones and Julie Cheng with 76 nett. In the stableford comp, down the lines went to Liz Garvey 35 and Norma Crebbin 33.

The stableford winner was Sue Nelson (43) with 37 points.

Monday’s stableford competition saw some great scores in…none better than Tony Gray (12) who scored 42 points to win A Grade by two shots from Ross Maclean (14) on 40 points.

B Grade winner was Christopher James (30) with 38 points, three clear of Gordon Edwards (23) on 35 points.

Down the lines went to Steven Smith 40 and Grant Wilson 40, Brian Webster 39, Harry Elaysie 38, Colin Crowle 37, Roger Parker, Bobby Edwards, Matt Hogan and Nick Gray 36, Matt Yusoff and Noel Boyd 35 and Dave Lummis, Simon Fay and Kevin Sutton with 34 points.

Nearest the pins went to 2nd Hole: Grant Wilson (3.55m) and 16th Hole: Willie Carmichael (1.40m).

And Sunday’s stableford competition rounded out the weekly program with Heath Barclay (10) scoring 42 points to win by one from Steely Mateariki (10) on 41.

Down the lines went to Leon Mateariki 35 and Matt Lloyd 33.
