Pakenham’s men followed up a tight 97-91 loss to Melbourne University with a 91-86 victory over Camberwell on the weekend.

After making six of eight shots to race out to a 16-8 lead midway through the first term, Melbourne University closed the gap and then led throughout the second and third quarter, but a strong last two minutes before the last break saw the Warriors close to within a point.

Ned Weideman briefly gave them the lead early in the fourth, but Melbourne University responded and made their freethrows late which made it tough for a trailing Warriors outfit.

Malik Colvin-Seldon continued his scoring ways with 25, while Cal McNiff returned from a week off with 11 points and six rebounds off the bench.

Colvin-Seldon started off the bench on Sunday as Pakenham again raced out to a 16-8 lead but it was a tense affair thereafter, with several lead changes, until the Warriors led throughout the entirety of the last quarter.

Camberwell closed several times, but a pair of Joe Davis threes when it mattered helped Pakenham hold on.

The 4-2 Pakenham face ladder-leaders Wyndham away on Sunday at 3pm.
