THE State Government has announced the allocation of $13 million towards building a new primary school in Officer.
The Gum Scrub Creek Primary School would be designed by ClarkeHopkinsClarke, Eastern Victoria Region MP Daniel Mulino said as he announced the funding as part of the Victorian Budget 2016-’17.
The construction of Gum Scrub Creek Primary School is one of 12 new schools to be built across the state before 2018.
Victoria is experiencing unprecedented population growth, with an expected increase of 300,000 new students by 2031.
Mr Mulino said Gum Scrub Creek primary would give local families “greater peace of mind”.
“This new school will meet the needs of Officer’s growing community,” he said.
“It will give local parents and families the certainty they need and make sure their kids have the facilities they deserve.
“By investing locally, the Andrews Labor Government is making sure every community in Victoria has great schools and every child gets the chance to succeed.”
Mr Mulino said the Budget provided for the investment needed to build and acquire land for 23 new schools.
Education Minister James Merlino said he was looking forward to visiting the site.
