A MOTORCYCLIST was airlifted to a Melbourne hospital after crashing into five stationary cars in Pakenham on Sunday.
The male motorcyclist, aged in his fifties, was travelling over the crest of the Kooweerup Road bypass towards Pakenham’s town centre when he was surprised to find a line of traffic banked up in his immediate path.
He swerved quickly in an attempt to avoid a crash, but side-swiped five cars before coming off his bike.
The motorcyclist sustained a “serious leg injury” and was transported to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in an air ambulance.
It is believed the traffic had built up due to 7-Eleven roadworks in the area north of the Kooweerup Road bypass ahead of the Princes Freeway exit.
Police told the Gazette the motorcyclist was last reported to have been in a stable condition.
The incident caused motorists some grief throughout the early afternoon on Sunday 11 December as the road was closed for about two-and-a-half hours.
