Leishout’s side on strong roll

GARFIELD BOWLS

THE Garfield Division-2 side travelled to Traralgon last week and with two wins and two losses came home victorious winning 97 to 94.
Peter Leishout’s team got away to a good start and were up nine-to-two on the sixth end going out to 16 to five by the break. Garfield took six of the next seven ends to be up 26 to six by the 19th. Traralgon got the last six ends but only by singles shots. Garfield were too strong on the day and had a great win 26 to 12.
Steve Whyte’s team were slow away and down two to eight on the fifth and nine to 16 at the break. They fought back well to be within one shot on the 16th end and although Garfield picked up four ends late in game they ultimately lost 20/29.
Tom Cleary’s team began very well to be up 11 to zero on the sixth end and still playing strongly were up 17 to four at the break. They then lost three ends but got a four on the 15th to be 26 to nine. Traralgon fought back winning eight of the next 10 ends however Garfield held on to win 29 to 26.
Steve Bassed’s team were level on the fourth but lost seven shots to be down seven to 13. They picked up three ends but were still down by five shots at tea break. Garfield came back strongly getting eight of the last eleven ends but Traralgon held on to win by five shots.

Garfield Division 4 played at home to Morwell and with one win and three losses went down 75 to 105 at day’s end.
Geoff Asquith’s team started well picking up four shots on the first end and were level on the sixth. But Morwell picked up seven of the next nine ends to be up 17 to nine shortly after the break. Morwell drew away going on to a great win.
Bob Lamport’s team were down on the first few ends but took lead at the sixth to be up 12 to four at the break. They only lost two ends after the break to be well ahead 27 to nine. On the last end Morwell were holding four shots however Garfield Skip Bob Lamport put down a great bowl taking the jack into the ditch to get three shots, giving Garfield a 30 to nine win.
Judy Pocklington’s team had an even start and were level on fourth but down five to 10 by the ninth. They got within two at tea break and kept fighting to draw level on the 18th and take the lead on the 19th. However Morwell picked up a four to be 18 to 16 on the 20th and won the last four ends to draw away and win by eight shots.
Skip Malcolm Shaw’s side were up three to one early but lost seven ends before smoko to be down four to 17. They had bowls in the head at times but could not hold them and although Garfield tried hard they were outplayed by a much better team on the day going down 11 to 38.
