CORA LYNN livestock agent Jarrod Bennetts has been awarded the Mike Nixon Award (Vic).
The award gives young agents the opportunity to gain industry wide recognition for their marketing initiatives.
He will now go to Sydney in October for the national competition where the winner will receive a fully paid ticket to the 2010 Calgary Stampede in Canada as well as $1000 spending money.
The Mike Nixon Award was established following the death of Mr Nixon, a popular and charismatic former livestock agent, rural journalist and livestock commentator and champion footballer and boxer, in 2004.
The award is a lasting honour to Mike Nixon’s significant contribution to the national livestock industry and is held annually to reward excellence in all facets of agency marketing, including livestock, rural property and merchandise. The award is open to any agency owner or employee who has not been in the agency industry for more than 10 years full time National Young Auctioneer title.
Jarrod was nominated for the award and was one of three chosen to be interviewed by a panel.
“Its about recognition for the work you do for clients and the company,” Jarrod said.
He works as a livestock agent for Everitt and Sealy at the Pakenham VLE.
Being a livestock agent is in the blood for Jarrod, who said his career was the natural progression for him.
“I grew up on a farm, so I have a farming background and grew up around livestock and the marketplace,” he said.
“I guess it was just what I was meant to do.”
While his eyes are focused firmly on the prize, Jarrod said it was his priority to work with his clients to get the best out of the market.
