Narracan swallows up railway towns

Narracan
Cardinia shire residents will have a larger say over the seat of Narracan than at previous elections, following the redistribution of election boundaries.
Traditionally, there has been little connection with the shire, with only Longwarry falling within the electorate.
However following redistribution, Narracan will claim 5720 new voters from the towns of Bunyip, Garfield, Tynong and Nar Nar Goon.
Current MP Gary Blackwood has been involved in several local issues outside the seat in Bunyip however, including a proposed quarry which has nearby residents concerned.
The ALP’s Kate Marten will be looking to break an almost decade-long hold on the seat by the Liberals.
But with a 16 per cent margin, it will be tough to make inroads.
Narracan has been a Liberal stronghold for decades, apart from seven years between 1999 and 2006 when Labor held the seat.
In an interview with the Pakenham Gazette, Mr Blackwood said that one of the bigger issues for Narracan lies out of the Cardinia shire – the redevelopment, or possible relocation, of the West Gippsland Hospital in Warragul.
