Police injured in pub brawl

THREE police were injured in a brawl at the Central Hotel Beaconsfield’s annual Australia Day Centchfest celebrations.
Police were called to the sold out event and one male was charged for assaulting and resisting police after being told to leave the venue.
Senior Sergeant Nathan Prowd said three police members sustained minor injuries from the incident.
“A number of people were removed and arrested for being drunk in public and capsicum spray was used on one person,” Sen Sgt Prowd said.
“It’s against their licence to serve intoxicated patrons and during these events police expect venue operators to take responsibility of patrons,” he said.
Sen Sgt Prowd said it is illegal to be drunk in public at licensed premises, which makes a person more likely to commit or be victim to a crime.
The Pakenham Gazette tried to contact the owner of the Central Hotel Beaconsfield several times, with no response.
Pakenham police are investigating the incident.
