RATEPAYERS will be forced to foot the bill after a Beaconsfield footpath was inexplicably removed earlier this year.
Councillor Tania Baxter is appealing to Cardinia Shire residents to find who was responsible for removing the path
On the morning of Saturday 14 February, a Beaconsfield path was removed without permission from council.
The path ran next to the Wood Street Kinder through to Bob Burgess Park, where Carols by Candlelight are celebrated each year.
Cr Baxter said that council hopes to find the responsible to hold them accountable.
“It will cost you, the ratepayer, about $10,000 if we don’t find the culprit,” she said.
“It’s not right that they get away with it so we need your help.”
Police and the council are currently investigating the matter. A contractor may have been unknowingly hired to conduct the illegal works.
Cr Baxter hopes that the money required to fix the path will be recovered and put towards other council projects.
“If you saw a truck, forklift or other machinery and you think you know the logo or company name, it may assist us to claim your money back so we can use it for new path infrastructure.”
