High waters sink Panthers

A TSUNAMI swept off Port Phillip Bay and hit the Dromana football ground on Saturday… crashing into and sinking a previously buoyant Pearcedale by 24 points – 12.16 (88) to 10.4 (64).
The Panthers had the upper hand at three-quarter time, 16-points up with just a quarter to rub, but a 7.5 to 1.1 final quarter by Dromana sunk the visitors in a flash.
The Panthers, who had Pat Heijden (3 goals) and Lachlan Marshall (2 goals) dangerous up forward, trailed at the first two breaks, but pushed into a winning position with a ruthlessly efficient 5.0 to 1.3 premiership quarter.
Despite the efforts of Dan Heijden and Kallum Searle, the Panthers had no answer in the final term as Sam Fowler (6 goals) and co ran rampant.
The Tigers move to two and two, while the Panthers lick their wounds with a one and three record and a visit from top-of-the-table Red Hill to contend with this weekend.
Devon Meadows has failed to score in a quarter of football for the second time in a week on its way to a 33-point loss to Hastings at Glover Reserve.
The Panthers, who were kept scoreless in the first quarter by Rosebud last week, at least waited until the third quarter to produce its worst football, allowing the Blues to extend an eight-point half-time margin with a 5.2 to 0.0 domination.
Beau Miller, Steve McInnes and Pat Harmes were best for the Panthers who had Kyle Beveridge as their only multiple goal-scorer with two. The Panthers travel to Frankston this week to take on the Bombers who had their first win of the season after holding on by four points against Crib Point.
In other games, Somerville simply spread the load better on its way to a 13-point victory over reigning premier Sorrento. Miles Pitt and Leigh Poholke booted four each for the Sharks, but the Eagles had eight goal-scorers contribute to its 11-goal winning total. Scott Simpson, Adrian Speedy and Thomas Shaw kicked two each for the winners.
And finally, Red Hill forwards Josh Mould (10 goals), Michael Chaplin (6 goals) and Jake Mould (5 goals) had a day out in the Hillman’s 132-point rout of Tyabb.
